Who Needs Optimal Iron

Iron can be a difficult mineral to absorb. For this reason, it is one of the most common nutrient deficiencies in the world.

Many people are deficient in the specific nutrients required for iron to be absorbed and utilized. This is why standalone iron supplementation may not be effective at rebuilding or sustaining healthy iron levels.

Optimal Iron provides a well-tolerated form of iron along with targeted nutrients that help to absorb and utilize the iron.

Optimal Iron is an ideal choice for individuals with stubborn low iron levels. It contains 29 mg of elemental iron per capsule serving as Ferrochel® Ferrous Bisglycinate Chelate. This form of iron is gentle on the stomach and well-tolerated by those sensitive to iron supplementation.

Iron supplements frequently cause side effects such as stomach upset, nausea, or constipation. This can be due to the form of iron or poor iron metabolism.

Optimal Iron is designed for those who need effective iron support, but are sensitive to most iron supplements. This gentle iron complex contains targeted nutrients that facilitate the absorption of iron.

Many people struggle to absorb iron from whole foods and supplements. Iron requires supporting cofactor nutrients for its efficient absorption, transport, and utilization in the body. Low levels of these make it challenging to increase iron levels even with supplementation.

Unlike many standalone iron supplements, Optimal Iron includes these essential cofactors: vitamin A, vitamin C, copper, biotin, and riboflavin. Betaine HCl and lipase are included to support optimal digestion of iron and these supporting cofactors.

Dr. Ben Lynch ND designed Optimal Iron to provide powerful iron support in a well-tolerated form. This unique formula is gluten-free and dairy-free. It contains no fillers or GMO markers. It’s the perfect companion to our iron-free Prenatal Vitamins for those who require iron supplementation during pregnancy.

For a smaller serving of iron, consider Iron Chewable. When it comes to iron supplements, bioavailability is key. Feel good supporting healthy iron levels in your body with Optimal Iron by Seeking Health.

Capsules are easy to take. This iron is really helping my iron numbers to return to normal! I didn't experience any problems with constipation like most iron. ~Jadhemama

Key Ingredients In Optimal Iron

  • Iron (Ferrochel® Ferrous Bisglycinate Chelate): Supports healthy blood cells, muscle function, energy production, and metabolism.
  • Vitamin C: Supports iron absorption.
  • Vitamin A: May help to transport and distribute iron throughout the body. Low plasma vitamin A is associated with low plasma iron.
  • Riboflavin (B2): Riboflavin deficiency may alter iron metabolism and impair iron absorption.
  • Biotin: Supports heme production, and therefore the production of hemoglobin, which is essential for carrying oxygen to cells.
  • Copper: Support the movement of iron out of its ferritin stores.
  • Betaine HCL: Supports stomach acid levels. Low stomach acid may reduce iron absorption.
  • Lipase: Enzyme which aids in the healthy absorption of fat-soluble vitamin A.

Why Optimal Iron Works

Iron is considered an essential mineral needed for healthy growth and development. Iron is a part of many proteins (e.g., hemoglobin, myoglobin, DNA synthesis proteins, etc.). It serves as a cofactor for several enzymes (e.g., cytochromes, electron transport proteins, P450 detoxification enzymes, etc.). Iron also facilitates the normal synthesis of certain hormones (e.g., thyroid hormones) and maintains healthy muscles and connective tissues.

Iron requires certain supporting nutrients for efficient absorption and utilization. Low levels of these nutrients can make it difficult to increase iron levels even with supplementation of iron pills. These supportive nutrients are included in Optimal Iron.

  • Vitamin C is known to help with the absorption of ferrous iron. Vitamin C reacts with iron in the intestinal tract to form a compound that is easier for the body to absorb.
  • Vitamin A: Iron deficiency and vitamin A deficiency often run concurrently. The combination of vitamin A and iron is thought to reduce iron deficiencies faster than supplemental iron alone. Vitamin A may help to transport and distribute iron throughout the body. It may also facilitate the mobilization of iron from storage to make hemoglobin.
  • Riboflavin: Deficiency in this essential B vitamin may impair iron absorption, increase intestinal loss of iron, and impair iron utilization for the synthesis of hemoglobin (Hb).
  • Copper: Ceruloplasmin is a copper-containing enzyme that plays a role in iron metabolism. Ceruloplasmin, and thus copper, may be necessary for proper iron transport to the bone marrow for red blood cell production. Copper deficiency can lead to secondary ceruloplasmin deficiency and hepatic iron overload. Copper supplementation may help to restore normal levels of ceruloplasmin and ferroxidase activity.
  • Biotin: This essential B vitamin is a cofactor for the pyruvate carboxylase and methylcrotonyl-CoA carboxylase enzymes. Both of these enzymes are involved in heme synthesis. Biotin deficiency appears to lower heme levels in cells.
  • Betaine HCl: Healthy levels of stomach acidity are crucial for iron absorption. Betaine HCl may help to support absorption, which is particularly important for poorly-absorbed nonheme iron.
  • Lipase: This digestive enzyme aids in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamin A. Healthy vitamin A levels may help to support iron absorption.

Unlike many standalone iron supplements, Optimal Iron includes the nutrients your body needs to efficiently absorb, transport, and utilize iron. It is an ideal choice if you have stubborn low iron levels.

Many forms of iron lead to adverse reactions such as nausea, upset stomach, or constipation. Optimal Iron is a gentle iron complex ideal for those sensitive to most iron supplements. Iron in the form of Ferrochel® Ferrous Bisglycinate Chelate is well-absorbed and well-tolerated.

If you are struggling with iron deficiency or anemia, you may need more than just iron. Talk to your healthcare team about Optimal Iron. For a smaller serving of iron, consider our Iron Chewable. As with all iron dietary supplements, we recommend consulting with your healthcare professional to test your iron levels prior to use. Continue monitoring your iron levels and intake when taking iron dietary supplements.

    Works!

My ferritin levels increased greatly taking this. I checked my bloodwork again 6 months later, so I am not sure how quickly it happened but it went from 19 to 46. This formula is definitely more gentle than other iron supplements but it does still affect BMs slightly. I stop taking it if I am not going easily 2x per day.

Iron that’s not hard on the stomach

I was happy to find the right type of iron that doesn’t cause stomach/GI issues and include cofactors for maximal absorption. My iron was only slightly low but with this nutrient being so critical for infants brain health during pregnancy, it was important to find the type of supplement most likely to help.
